Case Study
Objective
Create a net-new Salesforce Trusted Services product that finds sensitive information (PII) in your Salesforce orgs
Process
My design process for Data Detect focused on a 0-1 approach: vision design, product validation with customers, iteration, build, and release. I began by creating an initial vision in partnership with my Product Manager. We validated designs with customers and iterated appropriately, and then we worked with ENG on build and implementation. Due to the eight-person engineering team being all new to Salesforce, we had to pivot early in the project and create something more "bare bones" via the wishes of a technical architect (dang!). We disagreed, committed, and released a pilot. With my PM, I gathered customer feedback and iterated accordingly. I am currently supporting design efforts that align better with the original product vision.
Outcome
We were able to produce a (very very) simple pilot that engineers could build and customers can use. In the past 18 months we've added new product features while I've redesigned some of the core product experience. It looks like the "updated" Data Detect will ship around March 2026.
Standout Features
First robust PII search in Salesforce Platform
Easy policy creation experience, including a dynamic object and field selection UX.
